Antifreeze

Antifreeze is a deadly poison that can cause serious harm to any animal, but especially dogs. The sweet taste of antifreeze makes it appealing for animals to consume, and even small amounts of antifreeze can be fatal. Dogs are particularly vulnerable because they often explore their environment by tasting things with their mouths.

Ingesting just a few teaspoons of antifreeze can be enough to kill a dog within hours or days. Symptoms may include vomiting, seizures, excessive thirst and urination, lack of coordination/staggering gait and in extreme cases coma or death. If your dog has ingested antifreeze seek immediate veterinary care as soon as possible since timing is critical when treating the effects of this toxic substance on the body.
